Gleeson Joins CSK in IPL 2024 to Replace Injured Conway

Chennai Super Kings suffered a blow to their batting lineup when Devon Conway was ruled out of IPL 2024 due to injury. The official announcement on Thursday confirmed that the New Zealand batsman couldn’t continue playing in the tournament.

Conway has been a valuable asset for CSK in the past two seasons. He played 23 matches and amassed 924 runs. His consistency was impressive, with nine half-centuries and an unbeaten 92 as his top score.

To fill the void left by Conway’s absence, Chennai Super Kings brought in England pacer Richard Gleeson as his replacement.

Devon Conway’s absence is a big blow for the Chennai Super Kings, especially considering his contribution to last year’s championship win. He was supposed to miss the beginning of the season because of thumb surgery, but sadly, he cannot play in the tournament.

Last year, the left-handed batsman was a key player for CSK, scoring a whopping 672 runs in just 15 innings and having an exceptional average of 51.69.

In his place, Chennai Super Kings have brought in English fast bowler Richard Gleeson. Gleeson has experience playing in the T20 format, having taken 9 wickets in 6 T20 internationals for England and 101 wickets in 90 T20 matches overall. He will be joining CSK for a base price of INR 50 lakh.

Considering his stellar performance last season, Devon Conway’s absence is even more concerning for CSK. Despite needing thumb surgery and missing the initial IPL matches, his absence for the entire tournament is a big loss.

Last year, the South Paw scored 672 runs in just 15 innings and an incredible average of 51.69.

Replacing him is English fast bowler Richard Gleeson. An experienced T20 bowler, Gleeson has impressive stats: 9 wickets in 6 T20 internationals for England and 101 wickets in 90 T20 matches overall. He joined CSK for a base price of INR 50 lakh. Interestingly, in his T20I debut, he picked up a dream spell with 3 wickets, including the prized scalps of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant.

Gleeson brings experience with over 100 T20 wickets, including a five-wicket haul and 143 wickets in first-class cricket.

Meanwhile, CSK is in a strong position, sitting at number 3 in the points table with 4 wins in 6 matches. On Friday, their next challenge is against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
