In a thrilling encounter at the National Bank Stadium, Multan Sultans emerged victorious against Karachi Kings, securing their spot in the playoffs of HBL PSL 9. Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Multan posted a formidable total of 189-3 in their 20 overs, led by an outstanding unbeaten century from Usman Khan. Karachi Kings, in pursuit of 190, fell short, managing 169-7 in their allotted overs.
Multan’s Dominance in Batting
Multan Sultans faced an early setback as Reeza Hendricks departed in the second over, courtesy of Blessing Muzarabani. However, skipper Mohammad Rizwan and Usman Khan formed a spectacular second-wicket partnership of 148 runs, steering Multan to a comfortable position. Usman Khan’s aggressive approach in the powerplay propelled Multan beyond the 50-run mark in six overs. Rizwan played a crucial role, contributing a well-crafted half-century. In the end, Usman Khan sealed the innings with a scintillating unbeaten 106 off 59 deliveries, featuring 10 boundaries and five maximums.
Karachi’s Chase and Multan’s Bowling Brilliance
Chasing a challenging target of 190, Karachi Kings faced an early blow with Tim Seifert being run out in the second over. Despite a steady start, Multan’s bowlers, led by Usama Mir and Chris Jordan, made breakthroughs at crucial junctures. The spin duo of Khushdil Shah and Usama Mir disrupted Shan Masood and Shoaib Malik’s partnership. Karachi Kings lost wickets at regular intervals, and despite efforts from Mohammad Nawaz, they fell short of the target. Multan’s bowlers, including Usama Mir, Mohammad Ali, Khushdil Shah, David Willey, and Chris Jordan, contributed with crucial wickets.

Usman Khan’s outstanding century rightfully earned him the Player of the Match award. His aggressive yet composed innings played a pivotal role in setting up Multan Sultans’ commanding victory.
