Shaheen Afridi Leaves Training Camp Upset Over Captaincy Argument

Shaheen Afridi, who used to lead Pakistan in T20 internationals, has left the training camp and gone back to his hometown, Peshawar.

The left-arm pacer, who is celebrating his twenty-fourth birthday today, left the camp following his removal from the T20I captaincy. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials have clarified that Afridi departed with formal permission and not out of anger.

Even though Afridi won’t be with the team for now, he’ll join them later for a special dinner on April 8th, which is being hosted by General Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

Afridi became captain after Babar Azam stepped down from leading the team in all formats following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, Afridi’s time as captain could have gone better, especially after losing a series to New Zealand. Later, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to make Babar Azam the captain again for white-ball cricket.

Sources say Afridi was unhappy because the PCB needed to communicate better about removing him as captain. He was also upset about a statement released after his removal, which included words he didn’t say. The PCB admitted their mistake to Afridi.

Afridi posted something on Instagram that seemed like a warning, suggesting he might show a different side of himself if his patience was tested too much.
Even though he feels he was mistreated, Afridi has said he’s willing to move forward from this challenging situation.
